Bike Lane Violations in San Francisco
Shuttle hangout on Townsend
650 Townsend St, San francisco, CA
This shuttle bus was hanging out in the bike lane on outbound Townsend betw 7th and 8th during Friday rush hour. No apparent sense of urgency, no hazard blinkers. I stopped to chat with him and he turned his hazards on.
Embarcadero gridlock
Embarcadero at Folsom, San francisco, CA
Southbound Embarcadero near Folsom. This Acura had to skirt into the bike lane to avoid blocking the box.

One nice thing about a convertible...
Market Street at Church Street, San francisco, CA
Is that the driver can't make believe they don't see you...
A succession of four cyclists speaking to her and me taking her photo eventually persuaded her to move. "Yes" she was aware she was double parked in a bike lane, "yes" she noticed that bikers were dodging her...
Her vanity plate, EK BALAM means "black jaguar" in Mayan, times being what they are, looks like she had to settle with a red Saab convertible.
Why move? The cyclists are screwed anyways.
17th and Market, San francisco, CA
This guy clearly thought that a white van blocking the bike lane branching off of Market St and UPHILL to 17th was a perfectly good reason to park there himself.
The sign above notes that stopping for commercial trucks (unloading goods for the liquor stoor right there) is permitted during weekdays from 9am-5pm, but that all other traffic is prohibited.
Didn't move even as I dismounted my bike, walked on the sidewalk to the passenger-side window and stared in.
Caught red handed, and tries to pull away in time.
17th and Utah, San francisco, CA
This guy was parked right in front of the "no stopping" sign, and didn't budge as I stood behind his car with my elbows on my handlebars.
He finally got the message as I pulled out my phone, but not fast enough.
Too hard to find parking near Starbucks at rush hour.
16th and Kansas, San francisco, CA
I saw this guy park outside Starbucks, get in a line that led nearly out the door, and collect his coffee while nearly 50 cyclists swerved, trying to avoid the car as they approached the light.
He's got nothing to worry about, no one can see his license!
16th and Kansas, San francisco, CA
This cowboy was hanging outside the California Culinary Academy talking to a couple of students and smoking a cigarette.
I parked my bike, went in to the Starbucks on the corner, came out 15 minutes later and he was still there, watching the morning rush-hour bike traffic swerving to avoid his extra-wide pickup.
But of course, why worry about anything when no one can see your license plate? That was clever of him.
White truck parked after sharp right-turn on a bike-lane heading UP a hill
17th and Kansas, San francisco, CA
He started reversing when he realized I wasn't going to just go around, but realized it would be unsafe to continue as he was backing into a freeway entrance.
He stopped, clearly deciding it would be better that I, with my more maneuverable vehicle, ride blind into the intersection with no visibility or wiggle-room.
Don't Take My Picture!
Folsom and 10th, San francisco, CA
She knew it was wrong to park in the bike lane - especially during rush hour - but didn't care until she got busted.
I Think I'll Just Park Here
Folsom and 11th, San francisco, CA
Folsom St. during rush hour, and CPUH383 was lucky enough to find a parking space.
Just can't find a parking space
Howard St, San francisco, CA
This driver was busy reading the GPS on his cell phone and was apparently so lost that he couldn't find the parking space directly to his right.
I think the next time I'm lost, I'll park my bicycle in the middle of the street while I read my GPS. I'm sure drivers will have all the patience in the world with me.
Little Car, Big Jerk
Embarcadero, San francisco, CA
This jerk was parked in the bike lane on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. There was an open loading space directly behind the white car, but the driver felt it was more appropriate to put cyclists at risk while he parked for over 10 minutes in our lane.

Thanks Fellow Zipster
Upper Market, San francisco, CA
Blew me off, until I took his photo, told him I'm a Zipcar member too and that I would report him. He pulled in to a loading zone 3 car lengths further ahead. Bikes forced to compete with cars gunning uphill on Upper Market Street.

Habitual Bike Lane Parker
Middlefield Rd, Redwood city, CA
This block of Middlefield in RWC is always occupied by several vehicles. I've seen this truck most often and the bumper sticker mocks me on a daily basis. I finally had to stop and take a picture. The curb was painted red at one time, but it looks like someone sandblasted it off (but poorly because there are still large chunks of paint).
Does anyone know who to contact in RWC to have this block addressed? It forces cyclists out into busy, speeding Middlefield traffic right before a choke point so drivers are extra aggressive.
